Making Jesus Famous

“Then His fame went throughout all Syria; and they brought to Him all sick people who were afflicted with various diseases and torments, and those who were demon-possessed, epileptics, and paralytics; and He healed them.”

Matthew 4:24

Our oldest granddaughter asked my wife the other day if my wife would make her “famous beans”. She gladly honored her request and spent Sunday afternoon making her “famous beans.” How does anything become famous I was thinking. If you look up the word, “famous” in a dictionary you quickly learn the simple definition, “known about by many people.” That’s pretty straight forward. Some antonyms for “famous” were, “well known, celebrated, prominent, famed and popular.” The more I thought about it, the more I realized our granddaughters definition of my wife’s beans was true for her. Because our granddaughter loves her Oma’s beans, they are popular with her and she celebrates them. But most of all she seeks to do one thing more.

Our granddaughter was doing what everyone does when they love something. They make it famous by their testimony. Have you discovered in your own life, people promote what they love? Just check out your friends social media accounts. If Jesus was walking the earth today there would be billions of people around the world with pictures of Jesus on their account. The Good News of the Gospel is Jesus is still walking the earth today as He lives in the hearts and lives of those who have been loved by Him and just as the people did in Jesus day, we have the privilege of making Jesus famous in our own world today!

Over and over again throughout the gospels we read of Jesus feeding, healing and teaching the people and then immediately the people responding by going about the their communities telling people about Jesus. Those who were touched by His life and impacted by His ministry made Him famous all over the world. What was true then is true today too! It’s the only reason you and I know anything of Jesus. Fast forward a couple thousand years and you find those whose lives have been touched by His still have a desire to make Jesus famous by sharing the good news about His healing and helping and transforming power with a thirsty, hungry, hurting and dying world.

Let me ask you a question. Has your life has been touched by Jesus? Is He famous in your life? In your home? How about your neighborhood? Is Jesus famous among your family and friends? Do the people where you shop and eat and do life know about Him? If you have experienced the transforming power of His love, make it your aim to make Jesus famous everywhere you go. Share Jesus life and love, reminding people of His soon and glorious return. Make no beans about it, loved one, if you love the Lord or better still, have been loved by Him, make Jesus famous today!

“But when they had departed, they spread the news about Him in all that country.”

Matthew 9:31
