If

"Now it shall come to pass, if you diligently obey the voice of the LORD your God, to observe carefully all His commandments which I command you today, that the LORD your God will set you high above all nations of the earth.”

Deuteronomy 28:1

My college football coach would tell us in his calm demeanor at half time if we were behind, “Men, football is made up of two half’s. You lost the first half. Remember, if at first you don’t succeed try doing what your coach told you to do the first time.” That’s some pretty sage advice from one of the winningest coaches in junior college football and reminds me of many passages of scripture I read in my bible.

Life’s greatest accomplishments are attained by obedience, not ambition, and the Bible has much to say about success and how to achieve it. Psalm 119:9 reminds me of my coach when the psalmist declares, “How can a young man cleanse his way? By taking heed according to Your word.” Jesus Himself said, “If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My love, just as I have kept My Father's commandments and abide in His love” (John 15:11). The apostle Paul put it like this in Romans 8:14, “For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God.”

If at first you don’t succeed, loved one, try doing it the way God maps out in His Word. Pick up your bible and read it with the intent of obeying what you read and what the Lord is calling you to do. Don’t forget, one of the biggest benefits of owning a bible is knowing, “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path” (Psalm 119:105). Measure your success by how close you are walking with God. In the end you will be glad you did!

“Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.”

1 Corinthians 15:58

I LOVE YOU!
