Worry Never Works

“Which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature?”

Matthew 6:27

If you are like me at all this morning you have watched the news to see where things are at today around the world concerning both the coronavirus itself and its impact on the worlds economic systems. Hopefully you are like me in your response too, saying to yourself “God’s Got This!” It’s true, loved one, "God’s Got This" and since He does we can rest in the fact that even though much of life seems unsettled at best right now, God is unmoved by current world events and everything, and I mean everything is going 100% according to His plan. With God, it’s worry that is unemployed and out of work for the simple fact, worry never works. Its true, 90% of what we worry about never comes true, yet we still worry.

Since God is in control that means God knows exactly what’s going on in the world and that means He is fully aware of what is happening in your world too, that He knows exactly where you are at. I am comforted by Jesus words in Luke 12:6-7 where He said, "Are not five sparrows sold for two copper coins?  And not one of them is forgotten before God. But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Do not fear therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows.” That can’t be stressed too much. You are valuable to God where as worry is unemployable.

God doesn’t measure our worth based upon how much we make. Our worth to God has nothing to do with what we do for a living, our worth is based upon who we belong too, that we belong to God. If you understood, loved one how much God cared about you in this moment the last thing you would do is worry about your life and all the things going on in the world today. We’d simply come to God and allow Him to turn our panic into prayer and our worry into worship. Read for yourself in Luke 22 and understand why Jesus says, “Then He said to His disciples, "Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat; nor about the body, what you will put on. Life is more than food, and the body is more than clothing. Consider the ravens, for they neither sow nor reap, which have neither storehouse nor barn; and God feeds them. Of how much more value are you than the birds? And which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature? If you then are not able to do the least, why are you anxious for the rest? Consider the lilies, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin; and yet I say to you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. If then God so clothes the grass, which today is in the field and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, how much more will He clothe you, O you of little faith?”

Remind yourself today loved one, remind others too, God’s Got This! Jesus has given us precious promises that He the Father would take care of us if we will trust Him, if we will put our confidence in Him and come to Him. So, let me ask you a real honest question this morning. Its like the elephant in the room these days. Are you tired today loved one? Has this coronavirus got you stressed out? Do you feel like you are going to snap soon if we don’t get some good news really soon? How are you handling the stress of life this virus has created? If you are like many of us you are beginning to feel a little (ok, a lot) overwhelmed. Just know, you are not alone.

The good news today is when you reach that place in life where the burdens are just too heavy to carry you have an invitation from Jesus to bring them to Him. In Matthew 11:30-31 Jesus invites us, “Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light."

Go ahead, loved one, fire your burdens, take fear and worry off your payroll and say, “God’s Got This!” Leave all your cares at Jesus feet in prayer and let God do the worrying for you. He will turn your panic into prayers and your worry into worship when you do. And it doesn’t end there, loved one. God has a gift for you today, a gift in order to benefit from it you must receive and open. Jesus told His disciples in John 14:27, “Jesus told His disciples, “Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.”

Any time fear and worry seek to dominate your thoughts, open God’s gift of peace that is ours every time we come into His presence. Where God is His peace is there too! Remember you’re worth today, loved one. You matter to God. And though you might be at home today God is still working for you. He knows exactly what you need and when you need it. Trust Him!

“Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

Romans 8:37-39

I LOVE YOU!
