Wish Big!

“Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen.”

Ephesians 3:20-21

It was Lord Coggan the Archbishop of Canterbury who penned the words, "When God intends to make something wonderful he begins with a difficulty. When he intends to make something very wonderful, he begins with an impossibility." Christmas is living proof that God is able to do the impossible which is absolutely wonderful. To think Mary was a virgin when she gave birth to her first born son, our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. That’s impossible many in the world say. How could a virgin give birth to a baby without ever knowing a man intimately? Simply put, by the power of the Holy Spirit. Nothing is impossible with God.

Christmas is a glorious celebration of the wonderfully impossible, when God Himself came in the form of sinful man without being sinful. Romans 8:3-4 says, “For what the law could not do in that it was weak through the flesh, God did by sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, on account of sin: He condemned sin in the flesh, that the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.” Because God was His Father, Jesus lived only in the likeness of sinful flesh. Jesus inherited the flesh from his mother, Mary, but not the sin from Joseph. In Jesus Christ, God the Father has accomplished the impossible!

Because of the sin of Adam and Eve every person born into this world is born in sin, minus one! Only Jesus Christ was born without sin and because of that only Jesus is qualified to save us from the penalty of sin which includes both separation from God and eternal death. Christmas is the celebration of God doing the wonderfully impossible, saving us from death and making a personal relationship with God wonderfully possible to any and all who receive the gift that Jesus offers.

Because Jesus was born into this world as a man He understands us. Hebrews 4:15 tells us, “For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin.” Because Jesus is God, His sacrifice on the Cross provides all we need to be reconciled back to God, “For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him” (2 Corinthians 5:21). Christmas now is the celebration that God is with us once again!

What is your wish this Christmas? Before you make a wish this Christmas read Romans 8:32 which tells us, “He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things?” Don’t wish for temporal things, loved one, wish big! Wish for things this Christmas that last forever! This Christmas wish for things that are wonderfully impossible knowing with Jesus all things are possible!

“For with God nothing will be impossible."

Luke 1:37
