Seek and Save, not Search and Destroy

“Then the Lord God called to Adam and said to Him, “Where are you?”

Genesis 3:9

My grand kids love to play hide and seek for fun and yet the book of Genesis tells us that when Adam and Eve sinned against God they went into hiding out of fear and God came seeking after them. It is there in Genesis chapter 3 that we discover “Hide and Seek” was real and not a game, and men and women have been hiding ever since. People hide in the strangest places. Some people hide right in front of us never opening up to those around them while others hide in the most grotesque places, in bondage to sin.

I once heard a pastor say that Adam and Eve probably hid in the midst of poison ivy and covered themselves with the leaves from poison oak. The point is, we spend a lot of time hiding, hiding from God and from others. No matter what, know that though men and women attempt to hide from God, He is always seeking us and He knows right where we are! That’s the Good News of the Gospel! “For God so loved the world that He sent His only begotten Son, that whosoever would believe in Him would not perish but have everlasting life.” God has made a way for us to come out of hiding and to walk in the light.

The thought of “Hide and Seek” reminds me of a cute story I read.  A man calls a house and a little boy answers the phone with a whisper, "Hello?"  The man says, "Can I speak to your mommy?"  The little boy says, "She's busy."  So the man says, "Can I speak to your daddy?"  The little boy says, "He's busy too."  The man's curious.  He says, "Is there anybody else at home?"  "Yes.  The police are here."  The little boy said.  Now the guy's concerned.  He said, "Can I speak to the police officer?"  "No, she's busy too."  Is there anybody else at home?  The man is kind of panicking now.  The little boy said, "Yes, the firemen are here."  He says, "Can I speak to a fireman?"  "No, they're busy too."  The man's really frustrated by this time and he says, "Young man!  What are all the fireman busy doing?"  The little boy said, "They are all looking for me."

Are you aware that God might be seeking after you today? God knows we all have sinned and fallen short of His glory and He knows that most often when we have sinned against His commands we attempt to hide ourselves behind or in the poison ivy only making matters worse. God knows we don’t have the cure for our “itch” and is why He sent His Only Begotten Son to bring us the remedy, because Jesus is the cure, and why we no longer need to hide.

Know this today, loved one, Jesus came to seek and to save not to search and destroy. When you hear the Lord calling you today, calling out to you by name, don’t hide from Him, loved one, call out to Him and allow the blood of Jesus that He shed on Calvary's Cross cleanse you from your sin. Allow Jesus to come to your rescue you. You don't need to seek to cover your sin as Jesus is our covering. It’s Jesus who cleanses us and heals us from all of our sins! Hide and seek is a child's game, not a way of life. Take God at His word when He says, "If we confess our sin He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness" (1 John 1:9). Don't hide from God, cry out to Him and be set free!
