One Small Step, One Giant Leap

“And the Lord said to Joshua, “This day I will begin to exalt you in the sight of all Israel, that they may know that, as I was with Moses, so I will be with you.”

Joshua 3:7

As a country, we just celebrated the fifty year anniversary of Apollo flight 11 that landed men on the moon. Neil Armstrongs famous words “That's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind" come to mind as I read Joshua chapter 3 where God has the entire nation take both a small step that results in a giant leap of faith. Both events went down in history as pictures of faith.

If you have ever seen the Jordan River during the flood season you know that this was no small feat  as the priests stepped out in the water. Over a mile wide during the peak of flood season, the Jordan River was easily deep enough and swift enough to wipe out the entire nation.

Can you imagine stepping out into a river that could easily just sweep you away to your death and to have it suddenly quit flowing and the ground beneath your feet be totally dry? It’s almost beyond imagination but that is exactly what happened. When the priests bearing the ark of the covenant of the Lord stepped in to the water it ceased to flow and all the people crossed over on dry land.

Up to this point in the bible we have seen the faith of individuals on display, men and women who trusted God and acted on faith. Here in Joshua chapter 3 we see and entire nation stepping out in faith. What a testimony to the world when God’s children step out in faith together. There really is strength in numbers.

Believe it or not, God has more for you than what you possess today, loved one, but God will never give you more than you are willing to take hold of. My prayer for you today, friend, is that your faith in God will cause you to go forward, to step out and overcome the obstacles that will seek to block your path or intimidate you from trusting God. There is a promise that God has for you to take hold of today.  It will take faith to enter it; you’ll have to do something to see it come about as faith always involves action; faith is never passive but active!

Learn the lesson of Joshua and the children of Israel. Often times we have to step out in faith before the Lord removes the obstacles in front of us that stand between our past and our future. So don’t sit back and wait for the “perfect moment” in life before you step out, for it will most likely never come. Do what the children of Israel did, lean not on your own understanding but instead, trust the Lord and then step forward in faith, not backward in unbelief. Yes, loved one, sometimes you have to get your feet wet en route to enjoying the life God has for you!

“Therefore know that only those who are of faith are sons of Abraham. And the Scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the Gentiles by faith, preached the gospel to Abraham beforehand, saying, “In you all the nations shall be blessed.” So then those who are of faith are blessed with believing Abraham.”

Galatians 3:7-9

I LOVE YOU!
