Your Worth

“You are a royal priesthood, His priceless possession”

1 Peter 2:9 (paraphrased)

Teaching from Matthew 13 this past Sunday and verses 44-46 in particular, I was reminded of the value Jesus places on the life of every individual believer when Jesus speaking in a parable said, “Again, the kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field, which a man found and hid; and for joy over it he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field. "Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant seeking beautiful pearls, who, when he had found one pearl of great price, went and sold all that he had and bought it.” In both instances the man in the story is Jesus and those who have placed their hope and trust in Him are likened to a treasure hidden in a field that for joy a man would sell all that he has to purchase it and likened as well to a single pearl of great value that when found a man again would sell all that he has to purchase it.

With those two parables in mind today when was the last time you actually thought about your worth? And no, I’m not talking about your financial portfolio, I’m talking about your actual worth, how much you mean to God. Like the words to the song that goes, “You might only be one person in the world but you might just be the world to one person,” it’s true! Yes, loved one, you do mean the world to the One who matters most.

Our bible teaches us, “For God so loved this world that He gave His only begotten Son, that who ever believes in Him, would not perish but have everlasting life.” Believe it or not, friend, you are the world to God, and even if you were the only person to ever walk this planet, Jesus Christ would have given His life for you. Talk about worth!

I don’t know how you see yourself today but I do know how God sees you and that’s what matters most. God thinks the world of you. Yes, there are approximately 7.2 billion people on this planet but because God is God He alone has the ability to think of you and me “simultaneously, exclusively”. No one else is occupying His time, no one is preventing you from enjoying direct fellowship with God. His throne of grace is open to you and me twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week and three hundred and sixty-five days a year.

Just think about that for a moment. We serve a big God! Over seven billion people could be praying to God at all the same time and He has the capacity to answer each of us individually without any hesitation or us having to wait in line. The point is, you will never get a busy signal with Jesus. He’s always available, waiting to hear from you! Isn’t that what the prophet declared regarding God in Jeremiah 33:3, ‘Call to Me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know.’

Remember wherever you go or whatever you do today, God is mindful of you and no matter how you feel about yourself, no matter what is or isn’t going on in your life, God loves you unconditionally. It really is true, beloved, “you might only be one person in this world but you ARE the world to God”!

“For I know the thoughts I think towards you says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope”

Jeremiah 29:11

I LOVE YOU!
