Living Like A Rock Star

“Those who are wise shall shine Like the brightness of the firmament, And those who turn many to righteousness Like the stars forever and ever.”

Daniel 12:3

Like many people we know, my wife and I enjoy watching “The Voice”, a made for television musical talent show. Watching highlights from seasons past I was reminded of the comments made by one of the shows judges who was commending a performance by one of the contestants for pushing on through the pain they were in. One of the participants was suffering from a terrible sore throat while performing on the worlds biggest stage. The artist faced a “make it or break it” moment and it proved to be a make it moment regardless of how the voting went. This young singer pushed through the pain and “left it all on the stage” as it were with a powerful performance. You couldn’t ask for anything more and win or lose it really doesn’t matter because they gave their all.

At the conclusion of the performance one of the judges responded, “Pressure will either bust pipes or make diamonds” and tonight you showed us you are a diamond! James 1:2-4 puts that statement into a biblical perspective for us when he writes, “My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing.” In other words James is saying pressure really does have a way of busting pipes or making diamonds and the difference is not in performing, it’s not in running from our pain or our problems but rather trusting God and holding onto Jesus and allowing the Lord to use whatever situation we find ourselves in to perfect the work He has begun in us. We are merely a reflection of Him for the world to see.

It takes faith to stand in front of crowd and perform as the world is filled with critics, and only a person who makes a stand can have an enemy. James is encouraging his readers to walk by faith, to take a stand, and to trust the Lord to use the circumstances in our life to produce diamonds, or more specifically, patience.

Let your light so shine before men that when they see your good works they glorify your Father who is in heaven. Yes, loved one, today is your day to live like a rock star as you live your life on Jesus, the Rock of our salvation and seek to shine for Him. The worlds your stage, so take a step of faith today and let your life sing loud and clear that Jesus is Lord. Oh to hear the voice of the only judge that matters say one day…

“His lord said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant; you have been faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your lord.’”

Matthew 25:23

I LOVE YOU!
