Shaken or Stirred?

“There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God, the holy habitation of the Most High. God is in the midst of her; she shall not be moved; God will help her when morning dawns.”

Psalm 46:4-5

I read a little devotional by a fellow pastor that caught my attention as the caption read, "Shaken Not Stirred" and it seemed like an advertisement for a drink and not a devotional. He explained in his writing how the verses surrounding Psalm 46:4-5 depicted chaos, a world falling apart and yet in the midst of a world falling apart there is a river of peace that flows in the midst of the stirred and shaken world that brings peace. But as I studied the text I considered too that maybe this river brings you and me to peace, and that peace being the very presence of God. The water is moving and that means it can be flowing from God or to God. Either way, I loved the imagery of a flowing river bringing me the peace of God or bringing me to the peace of God.

Life has a tendency to not go the way we planned but the beauty of Psalm 46:4-5 to me as I read it this morning is there are two ways you can look at this wonderful Psalm. You can see it as a river of peace that flows into the very presence of God amidst the chaos of this world or you can see it as a river of peace that flows to us from the presence of God in the midst of a world that is constantly being shaken and stirred. Either way, we need to be reminded again and again that Jesus is our peace, our solution for the worlds chaos. He came for us so that we could come to Him!

For some, you might feel like you are being swept away by the currents of life today. Go with the flow and them bring you into the very presence of God. Others of you still might be looking for water in a dry and thirsty land and you are longing for some rest in this journey called life. Remember, there is a river of life that flows from the very presence of God, and the invitation from God to you and me today is to come and drink, to be refreshed and restored by the peace and the presence of God Himself. Coming or going, the river of God brings peace! May your joy be made full today as you come to the waters edge and find rest for your soul.

"And he showed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding from the throne of God and of the Lamb."

Revelation 22:1

I LOVE YOU!
