Sure Footed

“He also brought me up out of a horrible pit, Out of the miry clay, And set my feet upon a rock, And established my steps.”

Psalm 40:2

Last week our town experienced an earthquake that measured 5.2 on the Modified Mercalli Intensity Scale. Any time the ground shakes it gets people attention as it should. It’s unsettling to say the least, lol. Are you aware that the writer of the book of Hebrews has a little something to say about earthquakes, “See that you do not refuse Him who speaks. For if they did not escape who refused Him who spoke on earth, much more shall we not escape if we turn away from Him who speaks from heaven, whose voice then shook the earth; but now He has promised, saying, “Yet once more I shake not only the earth, but also heaven.” Now this, “Yet once more,” indicates the removal of those things that are being shaken, as of things that are made, that the things which cannot be shaken may remain.
Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom which cannot be shaken, let us have grace, by which we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear. For our God is a consuming fire” (Hebrews 12:25-29).

Earthquakes are caused by sudden shifts in the earths tectonic plates along a fault line. Earthquakes serve to remind Jesus disciples that everything that can be shaken will be shaken and everything that we see shaking will one day pass away to make room for the kingdom of God which cannot be shaken. For those of you who are fearful of earthquakes you will be happy to know when God reveals the new heaven and earth there will never be an earthquake again! Thats one more reason to look forward to heaven one day!

Since we are not of this world but remain in it to fulfill the purposes of God we don’t need to live in fear of earthquakes but instead we should devote our days to stirring each other up in love so that we can say with complete confidence even when the ground beneath our feet is shaking, “On Christ the solid rock I stand, all other ground is sinking sand!”

“But none of these things move me; nor do I count my life dear to myself, so that I may finish my race with joy, and the ministry which I received from the Lord Jesus, to testify to the gospel of the grace of God.”

Acts 20:24

I LOVE YOU!
