Be The Miracle

“I tell you the truth, anyone who believes in me will do the same works I have done, and even greater works, because I am going to be with the Father. You can ask for anything in my name, and I will do it, so that the Son can bring glory to the Father. Yes, ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it!”

John 14:12–14

Every Born Again follower of Jesus has at least one spiritual gift, given by God for the work of ministry and for building up the body of Christ in love. Study them for yourself in Romans 12, 1 Corinthians 12-14 and Ephesians 4 for a list of most of them. There is debate among scholars whether certain gifts are still in use today. The ones in question are called “sign gifts” which include the gift of miracles. With regard to miracles some believe that no one any longer is given the gift of miracles while others believe and teach that miracles are still for today. I am in the camp that believes that even though no one person has the gift of miracles as an office, each of us can be used of God in the performing a miracle manifesting Jesus Christ as the true miracle worker.

There is a scene from the movie “The Guardian” that is about Coast Guard Swimmers where the Master Chief is sharing the hard reality of life in that, “there will come a time when you might have to decide who lives and dies out there. It's a terrible responsibility but it's one you will have to make as a rescue swimmer. The bigger reality is, its also something you are going to have to live with as a human being. There will come a time when you will have to say no to someone crying out to you to save them. The most important person to keep alive is yourself. You'll be facing crews from 5 to 20 all saying 'save me, save me.' They're looking for a miracle. You have to become that miracle. You have to find a way to be that miracle.”

If you believe God still does miracles today then you and I have a lot of incentive to “go into all the world making disciples”, believing in faith that at any moment in time God could use us to do a miracle that meets a human need all the while making Jesus Christ known. I don’t know about you but that excites me. To think as we set out to share the love of God with others the Holy Spirit just might choose that moment to do a miracle! He did it before, He could do it again! Let’s not be afraid to ask.

“It is the one and only Spirit who distributes all these gifts. He alone decides which gift each person should have”

1 Corinthians 12:11

I LOVE YOU!
