How To Defeat The Devil

“Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour. Stand firm against him, and be strong in your faith.”

1 Peter 5:8–9

I don’t know if you believe in the devil but I hope you do because he is real. He is not equal to God in any way. He is the opposite of God and has no power of his own. He is a created being and therefore he has a limited capacity. This is so important for us to know. We do well to know his limitations and how we can live victoriously when he comes lurking. Since the devil is not omniscient he can only be in one place at one time so the chances you ever have a personal encounter with him are like 1 in 8.1 billion. More than likely you and I have encountered one of Satan’s minions.

When Satan was kicked out of heaven the Bible tells us he took 1/3 of the angels with him (Revelation 12:4) and they are referenced in numerous ways in the Bible. Below are a few references,

Matthew 12:4, “Beelzebub, the prince of demons”
Matthew 25:41, “The devil and his angels”
Revelation 12:7,9, “The dragon and his angels”
Ephesians 6:12, “The principalities. . .powers. . .rulers of the darkness of this age”

Jesus said in John 10:10, “The thief’s purpose is to steal and kill and destroy. My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life.” The question that begs to be asked is how does the devil destroy our lives? In short the answer is by convincing us to believe his lies. So then, how do we stop the enemy from lying to us. As one pastor well said, “Don’t Give The Enemy A Seat At Your Table”.

The devil can’t possess a child of God so the only thing he can do is lie to us and convince us to not trust God and to live and act in opposition to God’s Word. The apostle Paul called the devils minions “messengers”, who come to us to plant seeds of doubt, distrust, and despair in our minds so that we act in ways that dishonor God and have the potential to destroy ourselves.

If you want to walk in victory over the devil don’t give him your ear. Don’t give him a seat at your table. You can’t stop the enemy from attacking you but you can determine how long he stays. Resist the devil by standing on the Word of God. Walk in accordance to the Word of God and fix your eyes on Jesus and the devil will flee as he is no match for He who lives in you!

“But you belong to God, my dear children. You have already won a victory over those people, because the Spirit who lives in you is greater than the spirit who lives in the world”

1 John 4:4

I LOVE YOU!
