Love Will Find A Way

“There are “friends” who destroy each other, but a real friend sticks closer than a brother.”

Proverbs 18:24

Reading this story in the gospel of Mark chapter two serves as a great reminder that having good friends matters. We pick up the story of a paralyzed man who was being carried by three of his friends to Jesus after the news spread of the miracles He was performing as He traveled from village to village and from town to town. Now back home people packed the house where Jesus was staying making it impossible for the three men to reach Jesus with the hope He would heal their friend. Undeterred by the crowd or their circumstances they proved the old saying true, “where there is a will there is a way”.  The men went up on the roof and cut a hole in it so they could lower their friend down to where Jesus was. In the end the man didn’t just get healed from his paralysis, Jesus forgave him of all of his sins which is so much better, making him a new creation all together while proving to the crowd that Jesus Christ was God in human flesh. Enjoy this wonderful story of friendship yourself below.

“1 When Jesus returned to Capernaum several days later, the news spread quickly that he was back home. 2 Soon the house where he was staying was so packed with visitors that there was no more room, even outside the door. While he was preaching God’s word to them, 3 four men arrived carrying a paralyzed man on a mat. 4 They couldn’t bring him to Jesus because of the crowd, so they dug a hole through the roof above his head. Then they lowered the man on his mat, right down in front of Jesus. 5 Seeing their faith, Jesus said to the paralyzed man, “My child, your sins are forgiven.”
6 But some of the teachers of religious law who were sitting there thought to themselves, 7 “What is he saying? This is blasphemy! Only God can forgive sins!”
8 Jesus knew immediately what they were thinking, so he asked them, “Why do you question this in your hearts? 9 Is it easier to say to the paralyzed man ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or ‘Stand up, pick up your mat, and walk’? 10 So I will prove to you that the Son of Man has the authority on earth to forgive sins.” Then Jesus turned to the paralyzed man and said, 11 “Stand up, pick up your mat, and go home!”
12 And the man jumped up, grabbed his mat, and walked out through the stunned onlookers. They were all amazed and praised God, exclaiming, “We’ve never seen anything like this before!”

What a great reminder for us today, “friends don’t let friends miss heaven”. Yes, Jesus can heal paralysis but let’s not forget that even more important Jesus can and will forgive us of all of our sins which is much more amazing! Thank God today for good friends who have helped you reach Jesus as none of us ever come to Christ on our own. Someone cared enough to share Jesus with us, someone never gave up on us even when it looked impossible. This story in Mark chapter 2 is an encouragement to us to never give up in seeking to bring our friends to Jesus and to always remember that love finds a way, love makes a way where there seems to be no way even if that means cutting a hole in the roof!

“And it is impossible to please God without faith. Anyone who wants to come to him must believe that God exists and that he rewards those who sincerely seek him.”

Hebrews 11:6

I LOVE YOU!
