Your Pain, Their Gain

“But he was pierced for our rebellion, crushed for our sins. He was beaten so we could be whole. He was whipped so we could be healed.”

Isaiah 53:5

Have you ever heard the expression, “God never wastes a hurt?” It’s true, even for Jesus. No one could ever convince me that Jesus enjoyed the pain and suffering He endured on the Cross yet the Bible says In Hebrews 12, “Because of the joy awaiting him, he endured the cross, disregarding its shame. Now he is seated in the place of honor beside God’s throne.” Jesus endured the pain for you and me! Jesus understood that His death would secure salvation for all who would believe on Him and for that reason He took the nails. Knowing one day we would be saved brought Him joy. Glorifying His Father made the bearing the pain possible. It’s safe to say the wounds of Jesus were used to do great things for others. Your wounds can too!

As followers of Christ we endure hurts and heartaches for the benefit of others. See 1 Corinthians 13. The apostle Paul wrote to the church in Corinth, “Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God.” In other words, we don’t ever need to be victims of suffering. We can allow God to heal us so that we can be the victor! Just like Jesus, our pain can be used by God for someone else’s gain!

Try looking at your pain and suffering the next time you hurt like this. Instead of asking God “why” is this happening to me? Take the focus off yourself and look to Jesus. Try saying something like this, “God, even though I don’t understand why ________________ is happening to me I know that you are good. So please help me to trust you and bring you glory in my pain by allowing me to comfort someone else who may be hurting even more than me so they might turn and find comfort in You too.”

Yes, loved one, remember this today, God never wastes a hurt! The man or woman of God whom He uses greatly has often times first been wounded deeply. People might appreciate your accomplishments but they can relate to you in your pain so don’t feel the need to hide it or pretend everything is Ok. We are all broken people, living in a broken world, surrounded by other broken people. Jesus came to make us whole, “and by His stripes we are healed”, guaranteed!

“Share each other’s burdens, and in this way obey the law of Christ.”

Galatians 6:2

I LOVE YOU!
