Freedom Isn't Free

“For you have been called to live in freedom, my brothers and sisters. But don’t use your freedom to satisfy your sinful nature. Instead, use your freedom to serve one another in love.”

Galatians 5:13

Today on this 4th of July I am reminded that freedom isn’t free. The bloodiest battle for the freedoms we enjoy in the history of the United States was our own Civil War which claimed 620,000 lives, even more than World War I and II and the Vietnam war combined.

Heaven is a free gift to all who receive it and yet our freedom from sin and death cost God everything. Jesus shed His innocent blood upon the Cross so that you and I could live as free men and women today. In the truest sense we must never forget that freedom isn’t free. Freedom always has and always will require the ultimate price. Our eternal salvation cost Jesus His life and our living out that freedom will cost you and I a death to self to fully realize it.

Yes, loved ones, because of Jesus we have much to celebrate this 4th Of July! Enjoy your family, enjoy your friends! Live in the freedom that Jesus provides, a freedom from sin and bondage, a freedom from selfishness where we are freed to serve and love one another.

“So if the Son sets you free, you are truly free”

John 8:36

I LOVE YOU!
