Kill The Mosquito's

“Catch all the foxes, those little foxes, before they ruin the vineyard of love, for the grapevines are blossoming!”

Song of Solomon 2:15

Some might think it strange that right in the middle of a beautiful love story you have a warning. Actually it’s very astute. In figurative language Foxes are symbolic and serve to remind the Shulamite and her beloved that the foxes are destructive and if left unchecked they could spoil the vines or in the case a “budding romance”. The foxes represent little problems that will arise in every relationship and if not dealt with will most certainly damage its health. Every love story in order to blossom and grow must confront the threats and do whats necessary to eliminate them and protect themselves.

The danger of little sins is our failure to understand every big sin begins small. The biggest lie we tell ourselves is it’s only a LITTLE sin. In Matthew 13:33, “Jesus also used this illustration: “The Kingdom of Heaven is like the yeast a woman used in making bread. Even though she put only a little yeast in three measures of flour, it permeated every part of the dough.”  The point is this, a little leaven (leaven is sin) leavens the whole loaf of bread.

On January 28, 1986 the Space Shuttle Challenger exploded due to a small rubber o-ring that failed, killing all 7 astronauts aboard. A tiny little o-ring like the one you might pay a couple dollars for in a hardware store was responsible for a catastrophe that shook our nation and our entire space program. A somber reminder as to why we need to pay attention to the details, the little things that if left unchecked, have the potential to destroy us.

All throughout the Bible we read about the little things doing the most good or doing the most damage. It’s always the little things. The book of James reminds us that though the tongue is little in size it boasts of great things. It both blesses God and curses man who was created in the image of God. Over and over we are warned to keep it in check. Are you aware that the most deadliest animal or insect in the world is not an elephant or a hippopotamus? It’s not even a lion or a bear, it’s a tiny tiny mosquito. Mosquito’s are responsible for nearly three million deaths annually. Isn’t that amazing to think in this big giant world of ours with all the knowledge and technology we have at our fingertips that this one little tiny insect remains such a real threat to our existence. Again, the point is, it’s the little things that if left unchecked will seek to destroy us.

Be on the alert! Sin is destructive in all its shapes and forms. Remember, there is no such thing as a little sin. Thats the lie of all lies. Pay attention to the details in all your relationships and like the Shulamite and her Beloved be watchful to identify the threats we all face, and then do everything within your power to eliminate them!

“Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour. Stand firm against him, and be strong in your faith.”

1 Peter 5:8–9

I LOVE YOU!
