The Invisible Hand of God

There is a doctrine that helps us understand when
we don’t understand. If it does not answer every
question, at least it provides the only possible
foundation for understanding. It is the doctrine of the
providence of God.

In English the word “providence” means, “pro”
which means before and “video” to see, literally
meaning “to see before.” Providence means to see
beforehand. And that’s exactly what God does. He
sees everything beforehand.

Though the word providence is not found in most
translations of the Bible, the concept is biblical. It
refers to “God’s gracious oversight of the
universe.” Every one of those words is important.

God’s providence is one aspect of his grace.

The word “oversight” means that God directs the
course of affairs in this life.
The word “universe” tells us that God not only
knows the big picture, He also concerns Himself
with the smallest details.
