The Great News About The Good News
This morning as we continue on in Acts 15 we are
looking at the most important question ever posed to
the human race is “what must I do in order to be
saved?” After numerous discussions that began
right after church ended last week I feel somewhat
like the guy who was auditioning at a church who
was in search of a new pastor after their previous
pastor retired. The pastor was invited to come teach
a Sunday morning message. The message was so
well received the search committee invited the
pastor back for the Sunday night service where he
preached the same message he had given Sunday
morning. It was good but the search committee
thought well maybe we didn’t give him enough time
to prepare. Let’s invite him back for the midweek
service. So they did and on Wednesday night the
pastor preached the same exact message he had
the previous Sunday morning and Sunday night. So
after the service they invited the pastor to a review
meeting and the head of the search committee
spoke saying,
“pastor we loved your sermon on
Sunday morning and when you preached the same
message on Sunday night we thought you did so
because you didn’t have time to prepare so we
invited you back to the Wednesday night service
and now you preach the same exact message
again. No offense, the message was good but we
need to know is that only message you have to
teach. The pastor responded “By no means is that
my only sermon. I have hundreds of sermons
prepared. I just determined that until the church put
into practice what I was teaching on Sunday
morning I would just keep preaching the same
message over and over until they do and then I will
move on to another sermon.”
