When The Sand Runs Out
Last week I mentioned to you a belief system known as uniformitarianism (uniform-atarian—ism). Which is the belief that life just kind of moves along like it always has without any big interruption of any kind. Those that hold to this kind of belief are saying that we live in a closed, naturalistic system, and events just move along steadily without any kind of cataclysmic event or punctuated event from heaven.
Last week Peter reminded us that there were in fact two major events, two cataclysmic events that have punctuated life on this planet. First there was creation. Talk about a cataclysmic event. There was nothing and then God created. Secondly, the flood. God causes a cataclysmic event to destroy all of mankind except for Noah and his family. Peter shared those two events to ensure us that in the future there was going to be another cataclysmic event in the future that would destroy the earth and the impact that event should have on our lives in the here and now.
Have you ever had something break and you say, “oh well, its all going to burn one day” as a way of reminding yourself that after awhile everything breaks down?
