Passage: Ezra 4
Series: Ezra
Duration: 1 hr 30 mins 17 secs
Ezra and Nehemiah were one book in the Hebrew Bible but became two when translated due to their length just as were the books of Samuel and the Kings. The purpose of the book is to tell the story of the return of God’s people into the land He had promised them. Its important because it gives us the account of God’s faithfulness to His people that after they had served their 70 years in Babylon for disobeying the Sabbath regarding allowing the land to rest, they would return from exile to the land of promise.

After 70 years of captivity in Babylon just as God had prophesied, king Cyrus has allowed the children of Israel to return to Jerusalem and rebuild the temple. After reclaiming their genealogy in chapter 2, here in chapter 3, we’ll see the children of Israel reclaim their theology… The Persians under King Cyrus allowed the deportees to return to their land in hopes they would remain loyal to him as king.

I titled this message today Grace Grace Grace in honor of chapter 3 of the book of Galatians, Not to be confused with chapter 2, Grace, Grace or chapter 1, Grace. Like I told you when we began this study in the book of Galatians. If you are willing and will take the time to read just one chapter a day for 6 days each week, by the time we finish this study your life will be changed. I mean if it the book of Galatians could have such a profound impact on Martin Luther’s life, the Father of the Reformation I’m pretty confident it could have this same effect on you and me too. This just might be the one book that changes your life and sets you free in your walk with Jesus.

Passage: Ezra 1:1-2:0
Series: Ezra
Duration: 53 mins 39 secs
Called The Second Exodus by many the book of Ezra can best be summed up in a single word, Restoration… Restoration, the wonderful work of God, a picture of His love and grace and mercy for the nation of Israel. Once again we see God as the God of the second chance. Ezra is the first of the post exile books. Written after the 70 years of captivity in Babylon.

I love Easter… I love the Gospel accounts of the resurrection. Wouldn’t it have been awesome to live when Jesus walked on the earth and seen with our own eyes these events. Experienced together, but from their own perspective.

Good for us, not so good for Jesus Christ as 2 Corinthians 5:21 reminds us, “For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.” Salvation has always been about God’s grace. Its always been about grace, From cover to cover, from Genesis 1 to Revelation 22 do you realize its always been about grace.

Passage: Ezra 1:1-11
Series: Ezra
Duration: 52 mins 17 secs
The book of Ezra picks up where 2 Chronicles left off. I guess they could have titled the book 3rd Chronicles but since most likely Ezra wrote it he gets credit. Ezra is the main character of the second half of the book bearing his name and Zerubbabel is the main character of the first half of the book. If Ezra did write the book of Ezra, he probably did so not long after he arrived in Jerusalem in 458 BC. The book of Ezra is postexilic—meaning, it was written after the Jews had been exiled to Babylon. The book of Ezra is called the Second Exodus but the message of the book is best summed up in a single word, RESTORATION.
