God promised Abraham and Sarah a son. At 65 Sarah couldn’t believe it. After all she was past the age of having children. When nothing happened for 25 years, and God still repeated the promise... Sarah just laughed. Yet it was God who got the last laugh as at the age of 90 Sarah had a son, just as promised and she named him Isaac. His name means “laughter”. Here’s how Paul tells the story... Sarah had a son “through promise.” Isaac was the miracle baby. He was God’s work from start to finish - like our salvation. Whereas, Ishmael “was born according to the flesh.” Don’t forget, “flesh” is me, my efforts, my ability - just like our efforts under the legalism.

Passage: Ezra 9-10
Series: Ezra
Duration: 1 hr 2 mins 47 secs
Last week we studied how Ezra and those going with him prepared for the journey. The number of men who responded to Ezra’s invitation to go to Jerusalem—listed in verses 2 through 14—was approximately 1,500. Something to keep in mind is that most of the Jews who had been carried into Babylon had, over time, become comfortable there. So comfortable in fact is this… In the first group, led by Zerubbabel, nearly 50,000 went. In this second group, led by Ezra there are 1,500 who go. Most chose to stay in Babylon. All that to say, the Holy Spirit is a perfect gentlemen. He invites. He encourages. He inspires. He enlightens. But He doesn’t force. Here in chapter 9 upon arrival in Jerusalem and discovering the state of the people, Ezra leads the people through supplication.

If you have been with us you know by now that Paul was writing to a group of churches in Galatia who were turning their relationship with Jesus into a bunch of rules and regulations. Instead of trusting in what Jesus has accomplished for them on the Cross and trusting in what Jesus had done, they were turning back to the law in hopes of earning God’s favor. Its important to note that any time someone turns away from the Lord to some “so called” new religion or some new way of serving God, they are not turning ahead or progressing but just they opposite, they are going backwards and digressing.

Duration: 47 mins 10 secs
Happy Mothers Day Moms! Today we celebrate you and for good reason. I read a quote this week that said, “It’s Not Easy Being A Mother. If It were Easy Father’s Would Do It” If having babies were up to men I have told you many times through the years that the human race would be extinct. Men would never allow themselves to suffer through what women must suffer through.

Passage: Ezra 7-8
Series: Ezra
Duration: 53 mins 49 secs

After 6 chapters Ezra comes on the scene. The year is 458 B.C. Its at least 60 years after the Jews first returned to Jerusalem. Zerubbabel lead the first group back to Jerusalem. Ezra leads a second expedition from Babylon to Jerusalem to help strengthen the struggling settlers. His purpose is different as the temple is built. He is teaching God’s Word so the people know how to worship the Lord and also how to live lives that are pleasing to God. God prompted Ezra to go and to teach the people. God’s leading is exciting in that He works in us before He works through us.

Passage: Ezra 5-7
Series: Ezra
Duration: 52 mins 55 secs
Coming back to Jerusalem under an edict of King Cyrus to go and rebuild the temple, first rebuilding the altar so they could make sacrifices to God. We are looking at the events surrounding the return of the jewish nation back to Jerusalem after their captivity in Babylon. At this time the Babylonians had been conquered by the Medes and the Persians and Cyrus, king of Persia is now in power. The book of Ezra is a lesson in restoration. There is always a pathway. Be it an individual or a church.

I am excited about this morning as I truly believe God has something to say today… God has a message for you. As I was praying about this morning I felt like the Lord wanted me to ask you a couple of questions. First, are you living your life in light of eternity? All through scripture we are taught we are all only here for a very short period of time regardless of how many years you enjoy life. The Second question is just as important as the first. Is what I am doing in my life today going matter 100 years from now…

Passage: Ezra 5-6
Series: Ezra
Duration: 54 mins 23 secs
Ezra and Nehemiah were one book in the Hebrew Bible but became two when translated due to their length just as were the books of Samuel and the Kings. The purpose of the book is to tell the story of the return of God’s people into the land He had promised them. Its important because it gives us the account of God’s faithfulness to His people that after they had served their 70 years in Babylon for disobeying the Sabbath regarding allowing the land to rest, they would return from exile to the land of promise.
