Read Matthew chapter 6. The message is simple. Jesus says, Don’t be like the people in the world around you and worry about everything. Don’t be like everybody else. Your Heavenly Father knows you need food and clothes. The Word of God teaches us that what brings a family together is our focus on the goal of the Gospel.

Title: Where’s Jesus? Looking for and finding Jesus in everyday life

Text: Various

Point #1. We exist for the glory of God.

Colossians 1:16-18 (NKJV)

16  For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him. 17  And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist. 18 And He is the head of the body, the church, who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in all things He may have the preeminence.”

1 Corinthians 6:20 (NKJV)

20  For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God's.

Rule #1 Love God

Rule #2 Love People

See Rule #3. See rule # 1.

Point #2. Don’t Just Love God, Seek God.

You have heard me share, “Keep Jesus between you and everything else.”

Matthew 6:33 (NKJV)

“But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.”

Jesus commands us to Seek God first!

Read Matthew chapter 6. The message is simple. Jesus says, Don’t be like the people in the world around you and worry about everything. Don’t be like everybody else. Your Heavenly Father knows you need food and clothes a

The Word of God teaches us that what brings a family together is our focus on the goal of the Gospel.

Remember rule #1 and rule #2.

Loving God

Loving people

To the degree your Family is focused on making disciples is equal to the satisfaction you will enjoy in this life.

What one things messes up a family more than anything else is selfishness.

Philippians 2:3-4 (NKJV)

3 Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself.

4 Let each of you look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others.

Don’t be like the world who puts their marriage and family first. Don’t be like the world who puts their children before God. Don’t be like the world who puts their job first. Don’t be like the world who puts their recreation before God.

Be different. Be someone who puts Jesus first.

D.L. Moody said, “Aim at earth and miss heaven. Aim at heaven and get the earth thrown in.”

Every day Jesus!

Ephesians 1:11-12,

“In Him also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestined according to the purpose of Him who works all things according to the counsel of His will, that we who first trusted in Christ should be to the praise of His glory.”

Point # 3. Time is Short! Get Going!

1 Corinthians 7:25-33 (NKJV)

25  Now concerning virgins: I have no commandment from the Lord; yet I give judgment as one whom the Lord in His mercy has made trustworthy.

26  I suppose therefore that this is good because of the present distress--that it is good for a man to remain as he is:

27  Are you bound to a wife? Do not seek to be loosed. Are you loosed from a wife? Do not seek a wife.

28  But even if you do marry, you have not sinned; and if a virgin marries, she has not sinned. Nevertheless such will have trouble in the flesh, but I would spare you.

29  But this I say, brethren, the time is short, so that from now on even those who have wives should be as though they had none,

30  those who weep as though they did not weep, those who rejoice as though they did not rejoice, those who buy as though they did not possess,

31  and those who use this world as not misusing it. For the form of this world is passing away.

32  But I want you to be without care. He who is unmarried cares for the things of the Lord--how he may please the Lord.

33  But he who is married cares about the things of the world--how he may please his wife.

This passage can seem rather strange if you don’t read and understand it in the context in which the apostle Paul is writing. Corinth was a messed up city, much like our world today. Sexual immorality was happening all around, even amongst many of God’s people.

Marriage and family shouldn’t hold us back... marriage and family shouldn’t divide us it should unite us!

Notice verse 29: “But this I say, brethren, the time is short, so that from now on even those who have wives should be as though they had none,”

The apostle Paul is saying the time is short, in the Greek language, short means “contract”, there is a set amount of time for marriage. We will not be married in heaven. Some of you are sad at that news while I think I heard somebody under their breath say, “YYYEEESSS with a hallelujah at the end of it.

Are you aware that couples that are others focused in their marriage have fewer arguments, fewer fights. They are too busy and too tired.

Its why Jesus tells us to Seek First the kingdom…. Invest your life in things that will last forever!

Only 3 things last forever! God lasts forever, His Word lasts forever and the Souls of men last forever!

Spend your life on sharing Christ or waste your life on everything else.

My marriage and family should open doors for us to love God and love people.

Grandkids are even better. I’ve learned more about self denial from my grandkids

Playing Barbies on Mondays

What are some ways each of us can “Seek First The Kingdom of God?”

1. Pray… The family that prays together stays together…

1 Timothy 2:1-2 (NKJV)

1  Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men,

2  for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence.

2. Go… Matthew 28:19-20 (NKJV)

19  Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,

20  teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age." Amen.

Live Life on Mission… We don’t go on mission trips. We are a mission trip!

Proverbs 16:9 (NKJV)

9 A man's heart plans his way, But the LORD directs his steps.

Step out in Faith… Here are some things you can prayerfully consider…

1. Boxes of love…became “Bags of Love”…

2. “Mobile Faith”

A bag, a Bible, a blanket, a brown bag lunch.

3. Go into the world... travel to a foreign country. Learn the culture together. Serve the people. Share Jesus!

4. Join a short term disaster relief team… There are disasters all over the country. From fires to hurricanes, flooding, earth quakes, tornado’s… The opportunities to help people are unlimited.

5. New this January… “2x2” Ministry… go out with someone with the deliberate desire to love people in Jesus name looking for ways to serve them and share Jesus.

5. “Spread the love... “Sandwich Saturday”. Meet at the church for a time of fellowship and make sandwiches. Go out 2x2 and look to give them away. Loving on people in Jesus name.

Free days!

Free Haircuts...

We cannot forget. As individuals and as families, We are on mission from God

The answer to America’s problems isn’t consumerism it’s self denial.

Jesus said it best when He said

Luke 9:23 (NKJV)

23  Then He said to them all, "If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me.

Look for ways to deny yourself and to prefer others.

Look for ways to go the extra mile.

Look for ways to share the love of Christ.

We are called to be Image Bearers of Christ… The best image of Jesus in the Bible is “self denial”.

Does your life reflect Jesus?

Does your marriage reflect Jesus?

Does your family reflect Jesus?

The more it does the more satisfied your life will be!

All of us can have a Christ centered life!

Choose Jesus!

Best place to start today if you have not done so is deny yourself and come to Jesus and receive the forgiveness of your sins and new life by being born again!

Get baptized today if you haven’t done so. No better day to start walking in obedience to God and His Word than now!
