The Sons of Korah

Psalm 84

To the Chief Musician. On An Instrument of Gath. A Psalm of the Sons of Korah.

1          How lovely is Your Dwelling place,

         O Lord of hosts!

2          My soul longs, yes, even faints

         For the courts of the Lord;

         My heart and my flesh cry out for the living God.

3          Even the sparrow has found a home,

         And the swallow a nest for herself,

         Where she may lay her young—

         Even Your altars, O Lord of hosts,

         My King and my God.

4          Blessed are those who dwell in Your house;

         They will still be praising You.           Selah

5          Blessed is the man whose strength is in You,

         Whose heart is set on pilgrimage.

6          As they pass through the Valley of Baca,

         They make it a spring;

         The rain also covers it with pools.

7          They go from strength to strength;

         Each one appears before God in Zion.

8          O Lord God of hosts, hear my prayer;

         Give ear, O God of Jacob!           Selah

9          O God, behold our shield,

         And look upon the face of Your anointed. מָשִׁיחַ [mashiyach /maw·shee·akh/]

10          For a day in Your courts is better than a thousand.

         I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God

         Than dwell in the tents of wickedness. Korah wanted to return to Egypt

11          For the Lord God is a sun and shield;

         The Lord will give grace and glory;

         No good thing will He withhold

         From those who walk uprightly.

12          O Lord of hosts,

         Blessed is the man who trusts in You!          בָּטַח batach

How lovely is

Your dwelling place

Oh Lord Almighty,

My soul doth long

And even faint

For You

Here my heart

Is satisfied

Within Your presence

I see beneath

The shadow of

Your wings

Better is one day in Your courts

Better is one day in Your house

Better is one day in Your courts

Than thousands elsewhere

Better is one day in Your courts

Better is one day in Your house

Better is one day in Your courts

Than thousands elsewhere

Number 4

17 Then the Lord spoke to Moses and Aaron, saying: 18 “Do not cut off the tribe of the families of the Kohathites from among the Levites; 19 but do this in regard to them, that they may live and not die when they approach the most holy things: Aaron and his sons shall go in and appoint each of them to his service and his task. 20 But they shall not go in to watch while the holy things are being covered, lest they die.

Numbers 7

Now it came to pass, when Moses had finished setting up the tabernacle, that he anointed it and consecrated it and all its furnishings, and the altar and all its utensils; so he anointed them and consecrated them. 2 Then the leaders of Israel, the heads of their fathers’ houses, who were the leaders of the tribes and over those who were numbered, made an offering. 3 And they brought their offering before the Lord, six covered carts and twelve oxen, a cart for every two of the leaders, and for each one an ox; and they presented them before the tabernacle.

4 Then the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, 5 “Accept these from them, that they may be used in doing the work of the tabernacle of meeting; and you shall give them to the Levites, to every man according to his service.” 6 So Moses took the carts and the oxen, and gave them to the Levites. 7 Two carts and four oxen he gave to the sons of Gershon, according to their service; 8 and four carts and eight oxen he gave to the sons of Merari, according to their service, under the authority of Ithamar the son of Aaron the priest. 9 But to the sons of Kohath he gave none, because theirs was the service of the holy things, which they carried on their shoulders.

They carried the Ark, the altar of incense, the table showbread and the golden lampstand

Numbers 16        15,000 died

Numbers 26:9-11 Sons of Korah Spared

9          The sons of Eliab: Nemuel and Dathan and Abiram. These are the Dathan and Abiram who were called by the congregation, who contended against Moses and against Aaron in the company of Korah, when they contended against the Lord,

         10  and the earth opened its mouth and swallowed them up along with Korah, when that company died, when the fire devoured 250 men, so that they became a warning.

         11  The sons of Korah, however, did not die.

1Chronicles 25-26 Sons of Korah were the door keepers

1 Samuel 6:22-28      1Samuel 33-38 Samuel descended from the sons of Korah

Ps 99:6 Jer. 15:1 Samuel called a great priest

Psalm 42

1          As the deer pants for the water brooks,

         So pants my soul for You, O God.

2          My soul thirsts for God, for the living God.

         When shall I come and appear before God?

Psalm 44

6          For I will not trust in my bow,

         Nor shall my sword save me.

7          But You have saved us from our enemies,

         And have put to shame those who hated us.

Psalm 45

1          My heart is overflowing with a good theme;

         I recite my composition concerning the King;

         My tongue is the pen of a ready writer.

2          You are fairer than the sons of men;

         Grace is poured upon Your lips;

         Therefore God has blessed You forever.

3          Gird Your sword upon Your thigh, O Mighty One,

         With Your glory and Your majesty.

4          And in Your majesty ride prosperously because of truth, humility, and righteousness;

         And Your right hand shall teach You awesome things.

5          Your arrows are sharp in the heart of the King’s enemies;

         The peoples fall under You.

6          Your throne, O God, is forever and ever;

         A scepter of righteousness is the scepter of Your kingdom.

7          You love righteousness and hate wickedness;

         Therefore God, Your God, has anointed You

         With the oil of gladness more than Your companions.

8          All Your garments are scented with myrrh and aloes and cassia,

         Out of the ivory palaces, by which they have made You glad.

Psalm 46

1          God is our refuge and strength, A very present help in trouble.

2          Therefore we will not fear,

         Even though the earth be removed,

         And though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea;

3          Though its waters roar and be troubled,

         Though the mountains shake with its swelling.

Psalm 47

1          Oh, clap your hands, all you peoples!

         Shout to God with the voice of triumph!

2          For the Lord Most High is awesome;

         He is a great King over all the earth.

3          He will subdue the peoples under us,

         And the nations under our feet.

4          He will choose our inheritance for us,

         The excellence of Jacob whom He loves.

Psalm 48

1          Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised

         In the city of our God,

         In His holy mountain.

2          Beautiful in elevation,

         The joy of the whole earth,

         Is Mount Zion on the sides of the north,

         The city of the great King.

3          God is in her palaces;

         He is known as her refuge.

Psalm 49

5          Why should I fear in the days of evil,

         When the iniquity at my heels surrounds me?

6          Those who trust in their wealth

         And boast in the multitude of their riches,

7          None of them can by any means redeem his brother,

         Nor give to God a ransom for him—

8          For the redemption of their souls is costly,

         And it shall cease forever—

9          That he should continue to live eternally,

         And not see the Pit.

Psalm 85

8          I will hear what God the Lord will speak,

         For He will speak peace

         To His people and to His saints;

         But let them not turn back to folly.

9          Surely His salvation is near to those who fear Him,

         That glory may dwell in our land.

10          Mercy and truth have met together;

         Righteousness and peace have kissed.

11          Truth shall spring out of the earth,

         And righteousness shall look down from heaven.

Psalm 87

5          And of Zion it will be said,

         “This one and that one were born in her;

         And the Most High Himself shall establish her.”

6          The Lord will record,

         When He registers the peoples:

         “This one was born there.”

SING

Blessed assurance, Jesus is mine;

Oh, what a foretaste of glory divine!

Heir of salvation, purchase of God,

Born of His Spirit, washed in His blood.

CHORUS

This is my story, this is my song,

Praising my Savior all the day long.

This is my story, this is my song,

 Praising my Savior all the day long.

Perfect submission, perfect delight,

Visions of rapture now burst on my sight;

Angels descending, bring from above

Echoes of mercy, whispers of love.

Perfect submission, all is at rest,

I in my Savior am happy and blest;

Watching and waiting, looking above,

Filled with His goodness, lost in His love.
