"Seize The Day!"

"But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord."

1 Corinthians 15:57-58

Are you excited about today, friend? I hope you are as the possibilities before you are unlimited. Don't take my word for it, take God's Word. Most anyone who has listened to the Bible being taught verse by verse has heard this expression at some point, 'whenever you see a 'therefore' in the Bible, you have to see what it is 'there for'! And it is true. 'Therefore' marks the transition from what is said and what the results or consequences are of what has been said.

We would do well to consider the results or consequences of the victory that we have in Jesus today. Because of Jesus you and I can be as the apostle Paul states in 1 Corinthians 15, 'steadfast', a word meaning to endure patiently. A steadfast person is one who is reliable, faithful, and true to the end. We don't have to quit because Jesus gives the ability to hang in there, not in our own strength but in His. Take the word 'immovable' in the Word of God. Webster's Dictionary defines the word,

1. Incapable of being moved; firmly fixed; steadfast; as, an immovable foundation.
2. Steadfast; fixed; unalterable; unchangeable; -- used of the mind or will; as, an immovable purpose, or a man who remain immovable.
3. Not capable of being affected or moved in feeling or by sympathy; unimpressible; impassive.
4. Not liable to be removed; permanent in place or tenure; fixed; as, an immovable estate. See Immovable, n.
5. That which can not be moved.

Because of Jesus resurrection from the dead we are guaranteed victory! This truth is what gives us the ability to 'stay the course' and become fickle. Because of what Jesus has accomplished for us on Calvary's Cross we can remain both 'steadfast' and immovable" simply because nothing can change whats true about Jesus! Jesus is alive! He has risen from the dead just as He said He would. Our sins can be forgiven because of Jesus Christ and our names written in the Lamb's Book of Life. There isn't anyone who can say or do anything to undue what Jesus has done for me and you!

The next thing Paul writes is that we can because of what Jesus has done for us, 'abound' in the work of the Lord. To 'abound' means, "existing in or providing a great or plentiful quantity or supply". In other words the apostle Paul is saying, because of what Christ has done for you, what you do for Him matters. Not only does it matter, but one day you and I will be rewarded for those things we did in the name of Jesus for the glory of God and for the good of our fellow man.

The freedom that we can enjoy today and every day comes from knowing, we are not responsible for the results, we are only responsible for our faithfulness to what the Lord has called us too. One day when we each stand before God we will be judged not for our sins as Jesus paid the penalty for those on the Cross. No, loved one, our day of judgment will focus on the things Jesus commanded us to do. Here, Paul is saying because of the victory that is ours in Jesus we can accomplish everything the Lord has called us to do because Jesus victory is our victory!

Work hard for Jesus today, friend, and give Him your best effort as He remembers our faithfulness. Abound in your service to Jesus knowing we don't have to worry about anything we do for the Lord ever being in vain. We might not understand all that He calls us to do but one thing we can know for sure is because of Jesus…

'And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose. For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren. Moreover whom He predestined, these He also called; whom He called, these He also justified; and whom He justified, these He also glorified."
