"No Regrests"

PastorMikeOsthimer1
"A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold In settings of silver."

Proverbs 25:11

In a television interview about a young girl who was abducted in 1991 walking home from school and then found some 18 years later when he abductors were arrested, television host Diane Sawyer asked Jaycee Dugard's Mom what her biggest regrets were during the 18 years she and her daughter were apart. What Jaycee's mom shared was surprising in that the biggest regret she lived with all those years had nothing to do with what had been done to her daughter by her captors, her biggest regret she dealt for almost 18 years is what she as a Mom had failed to do on the morning Jaycee was abducted.

The day Jaycee was abducted, her Mom, Terry Probyn was in a rush for work and said in the interview with Diane Sawyer, "I'd been late to work three Monday mornings in a row and I was focused completely on myself, trying to get myself out that door, so I wouldn't be late to work." Probyn said, my biggest regret that day was, "I chose not to go and kiss my girls goodbye that morning ... I wanted to be on time."

Most stories like Jaycee Dugard's don't end like this one where Mother and daughter are reunited and the regrets of 18 years are given a second chance. That was one of the obvious blessings you could see in the interview. This mother and daughter chose to make the most of the time they have together knowing there is no way to make up for lost time. James 4:13-14 says it best, "Come now, you who say, "Today or tomorrow we will go to such and such a city, spend a year there, buy and sell, and make a profit"; whereas you do not know what will happen tomorrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away."

Yes, loved one, life is short at best and today is the day to begin to do all the things you have waited and wanted to do as there is no guarantee of tomorrow. Its been well said, "tomorrow is the devils favorite word that he loves to hear God's children speak" because the devil knows we aren't God and we have no guarantee of tomorrow. The devil knows that in our delaying and procrastinating the things we need to say and do, more often than not we are left with a lifetime of regrets.

Yet, the good news of God's grace in the believers life is repentance. Repentace is a beautiful thing as what the word implies. Repentance is basically saying, "if I could go back and do it over again I would do it differently, I would do it God's way". Thank God He knows our heart, loved one, and if you have regrets over your past, repentance is God's second chance, even if we can't go back and redo those things we regret not doing.

Today is about deciding to not live with regret. Say what needs to be said, do what needs to be done today! There is a famous quote that comes to mind today when I consider how to avoid living a life of regret. May it minister to you like it does to me. "Do all the good you can, by all the means you can, in all the ways you can, in all the places you can, at all the times you can, to all the people you can, as long as ever you can."

"Come now, you who say, "Today or tomorrow we will go to such and such a city, spend a year there, buy and sell, and make a profit"; whereas you do not know what will happen tomorrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away. Instead you ought to say, "If the Lord wills, we shall live and do this or that."
