"No Buts About It"

"but if you return to Me, and keep My commandments and do them, though some of you were cast out to the farthest part of the heavens, yet I will gather them from there, and bring them to the place which I have chosen as a dwelling for My name."

Nehemiah 1:9

It appears from careful study of the Bible that there are two types of promises in the Word of God, conditional and unconditional. In Nehemiah chapter 1 we read what appears to be a conditional promise. You and I are probably more familiar with the negative side of the word "but" for when we hear it we are often reminded of the old saying, "if it sounds to good to be true it is". With anyone else "but" our God that might be true "but" not with God, for He is gracious even to sinners! That's why the Gospel is Good News!

When we sin, which means "to miss the mark" of God's perfection, the Lord desires for us to come to Him in prayer and to acknowledge our sin not seeking to hide it or even worse, justify it. The Word of God tells us in the book of Nehemiah that if we will confess our sin and turn from it by turning to and trusting in the Lord that He will forgive us, cleanse us, and restore us! That is a "but" you don't want to miss out on, loved one.

Have you ever felt far away from God before? If so, you can appreciate this passage. "Though some of you were cast out to the farthest part of the heavens, yet I will gather them from there, and bring them to the place which I have chosen." I would say to be cast out to the farthest part of the heavens is to be way out there, way off base, way off track, lost. The children of Israel were all those things and yet when they came to their senses and realized how wrong they were they turned to God, each and every time God accepted them. The good news for me and you today, loved one is this. He is the same yesterday today and forever. What He did for the children of Israel God in Christ will also do for me and you!

Keep this in mind today! Everything God does He does in love. God doesn't just love, He is love and therefore everything He does must first pass through the filter of His love. Even when the Lord rebukes us, and chastens us, He does so because He loves us. No matter where you are today, friend, God is closer than you might think and more than able to reach you and gather you to Himself. If you are feeling lost, alone and way out there today let me encourage you to call out to God, to put your hope and your trust in Him. He promises to not turn you away! Make no "buts" about it...

"For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with Him those who sleep in Jesus. For this we say to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord will by no means precede those who are asleep. For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord. Therefore comfort one another with these words."
