"If Your Heart Could Write"

"My heart is overflowing with a good theme; I recite my composition concerning the King; my tongue is the pen of a ready writer."

Psalm 45:1

Have you ever considered what is the leitmotif of your life? It's an interesting word that describes a persons life theme or motivation? If your heart could write a story today what would it be? Would it be a song of worship or would it be one filled with worry, complaints or compliments? For some people its drama, for others its action, some like to go fast and get things done, others like to take it slow taking in everything around them? For some life is always hard while for others it goes relatively smooth. I guess it all comes down to what we are planting day in and day out. I love that in Psalm 45:1 the writer declares in that his heart is overflowing with a good theme, a good leitmotif, but why? What causes the heart to overflow with a good theme one might ask? Have you ever heard the expression, "garbage in garbage out?" The only way for our hearts to overflow with good things is for our hearts to be filled with good things to begin with. The writer of Psalm 45 finds his source of motivation grounded in his thoughts about the King.

Where do we get good things to fill our hearts overflowing with a good theme? Jesus answered that question Himself when He said in John 7:38, "He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water." Just like in psalm 45, a good theme comes from good thoughts and good thoughts come from focusing our thoughts on the One who loves us like no other. When we consider the goodness of our King and our God, we can't help but have hearts that are overflowing with a good leitmotif.

Do you desire a good theme for your day?  If so, focus; focus on the goodness of God and think about Him. Seek the Lord and sing His praises, recite His promises, make known His deeds and declare His Word and you too will discover what the psalmist came to know in Psalm 118:1 when he said, "Oh, give thanks to the LORD, for He is good!" Yes, loved one, God is good all the time! My hope for you is that every time you hear something pleasant and something good your response would be, "that's the story of my life!"

"Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things. The things which you learned and received and heard and saw in me, these do, and the God of peace will be with you."
