"How Deep Is Your Love?"

image1

"There is hope for a tree, if it is cut down, that it will sprout again, and that its tender shoots will not cease. Though its roots may grow old in the earth, and its stump may die in the ground, yet at the scent of water it will bud and bring forth branches…."

Job 14:7-9

No, the title has nothing to do with the musical group, "The Bee Gee's but everything to do with growing deep in our love for the Lord by growing deep in His Word. The Bible says of believer's that we're like trees planted by the waters that spread our roots by the river (Jeremiah 17:8). We are told elsewhere to be rooted and grounded in love (Ephesians 3:17) and to be rooted and built up in Him, established in the faith (Colossians 2:7). Jesus warned of the danger of springing up quickly, but, having no roots, that ultimately we will wither away (Matthew 13:6).

Personal Bible study and not merely devotional reading is the best way to grow our roots deeply in the Christian faith. There is an old saying that goes, "If you want shade today the best time to plant a shade tree was 25 years ago. The second best day is today."

Studying the book of Job teaches us that life unfortunately doesn't always come at us in seasons and there are days when we need a safe place where we can find rest for our souls and the bible reminds us that the best place to find that is in God's Word allowing it to refresh us and restore us, to strengthen us and make possible enduring the storms of life that each of us will inevitably face.

Make the Word of God part of your regular routine, discipline yourself to feed on the Word of God as you read and meditate on God's Word daily. You'll be glad you did as when you do you will be like a tree planted by rivers of water that brings forth its fruit in season (Psalm 1:3).

"Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock: and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock. But everyone who hears these sayings of Mine, and does not do them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand: and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it fell. And great was its fall."

Matthew 7:24-27
