"Garbage In Garbage Out"

"I will set nothing wicked before my eyes; I hate the work of those who fall away; It shall not cling to me."

Psalm 101:3

Checking my Twitter feed I saw a post from a well known pastor I follow who said, "I heard the new season of The Bachelor was starting. It should be a felony to watch it". If his tweet doesn't make any sense to you let me be the first to encourage you to read David's words here in Psalm 101:3 where he determines to set nothing before his eyes that could make him stumble or fall away from walking in his integrity with God. David understood full well the old saying, "garbage in garbage out".

Today, this week, this year, make it your aim to walk worthy of the Lord. Don't let the world squeeze you into its mold. Take to heart the words of the apostle Paul who exhorts all believers in Romans 12:1-2, "I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God."

The goal of the Christian life is not to live sin free but to be free from sin, and Jesus came to set us free so that our focus would be on Him and not on sin. It was Dietrich Bonhoeffer who said, "Being a Christian is less about cautiously avoiding sin than about courageously doing God's will." The best way to avoid sin is to keep your eyes on the Lord and to follow Him.

"Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God."
