"Captured By Love"

"I am my beloved's, and his desire is toward me."

Song of Solomon 7:10

Reading the book of the Song of Solomon a quote comes to mind I heard a number of years ago. It said, "Many Things Will Catch My Eye But Few Things Will Capture My Heart". It's one thing to be noticed but it is another thing to become the object of focus. I could easily imagine how the Shulamite captured not only Solomon's eye but his heart too.

Do you know that you are desired, beloved? Do you have any idea that there is One who pursues you day and night, night and day, and who longs to meet with you face to face? It's true. Oh, to be pursued! Better still, to be loved!

The Song of Solomon is a beautiful love story, a story that communicates the desire of one for another. Every time I read it I learn something new, something that reminds me of the tremendous love that God has for His bride, the church.

We seldom think of a romantic love when we consider God's love for us but we should when we read the Song of Solomon because though Gods love for His bride isn't erotic, His love for us is truly romantic, and deeply passionate. When we respond to God in Christ Jesus it is because we have been desired, pursued and ultimately captured by love. We can learn a lot about the heart of God by reading the Song of Solomon, since He inspired it.

Yet, here lies the key to enjoying this unique story tucked away in the midst of the poetic books of the Old Testament. I think Max Lucado might have said it best regarding the reading of the Song of Solomon when he wrote, "A love letter is to be enjoyed not analyzed".

That's my prayer for you today, beloved of God, as you read the word of God today don't analyze it, simply enjoy it. Keep in mind that God's Word is His love letter to you. Simply open it up and listen for His voice to speak to you and just take it in like a sponge absorbs fluids. Get lost in His words and allow them to fill your heart and mind, and to saturate your soul. It will bring you peace and comfort for sure!

That's how you read a love letter. You read it over and over and over until the paper is crumbled and the words are no longer written on paper but now, they are forever engraved on your heart, in your mind and in your soul. Yes, beloved, that is how you read a love letter! Enjoy.

"Set me as a seal upon your heart, as a seal upon your arm; for love is as strong as death…"
