"Assembly Required"

"For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him."

Colossians 1:16

Men and women are different in so many ways and one that stands out in my mind always with regard to how we approach life is when it comes to following directions. I throughly enjoy listening to men describe how they go about assembling items they purchase. Ive yet to meet a guy who begins by reading the instructions. I'm not saying we don't end up reading them but few start there. Maybe its the sense of adventure or a product of the fall. We want to try it on our own?

Recently a guy explained that he has his wife hold the box up so he can see the picture on the box of what the completed object is supposed to look like. His explanation was simple. He thought focusing on the picture would make assembling the item easier and save him time in the long run not having to read the instructions. He said there was only one flaw in his methodology. The item in need of assembly also had internal parts that could not be seen on the box so that explained why he had a few parts left over.

Have you discovered often times we tend to do the same thing regarding our lives? We have a tendency to use and outside in approach. Instead of following God's instruction manual (the Bible) to become whole people we focus on the picture the world gives us of what complete looks like and we allow that picture to shape us. The danger in going by what is seen is that we too have internal parts that cannot be seen from the outside and whats on the inside is what matter most. It was C.S. Lewis who said, "God cannot give us a happiness and peace apart from Himself, because it's not there. There is no such thing." More than we can know, we need God.

You and I were called to a life of faith in God, loved one, for we are fearfully and wonderfully made by Him. If the truth be told, there is nothing simple about us and that is why we need to follow the Word of God if you and I are to ever become complete people. The last thing we want is to be left incomplete, to be undone as it were with missing pieces. To function properly in life takes faith, tremendous faith to believe and to accept that our Creator knows us better than we know ourselves and that by following His directions we will become complete, not just whole but holy people as God Himself is holy. Remember, loved one, the word 'holy' in our bible means complete, whole.

Here is a quote for you today, "God's people live on promises and not explanations." This is where trusting God comes in. We are His workmanship created in Christ Jesus that He prepared beforehand that we might walk in them." God has a will for our lives, friend, meaning that we were created by Him and for Him. We are not a random chance or accident. God created you with a specific plan and purpose in mind. God has not called you and I to fix ourselves or to put our own lives together or even "build the life we have always wanted."

God's desire for you and me is that we follow His directions, submit to His Lordship in our lives knowing that the life that pleases Him is the life of faith where we walk with Him "step by step" day by day, hoping and trusting and believing on Him to complete the work He started in us. Don't forget, God has made us a very faithful promise, one we can trust in completely. He will finish the work He has begun in us from the inside out, no missing pieces!

"For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them."

Ephesians 2:10
