How Knowledge Becomes Power

“Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might.”

Ephesians 6:10

Have you ever heard the expression, “Knowledge is power?” That could not be more true than when it comes to winning the battles you and I face each day as followers of Christ. After all, it was Jesus who said, “The truth you will know and the truth will set you free.” There is power in knowing truth and applying it to everything you do in your life each day. Before the apostle Paul lays out the armor of God that all believers are to put on before we head out into battle each day, he exhorts us to be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. Before describing the different articles of our battle gear and the role each specific piece plays in our waging war on the devil, the apostle Paul makes clear a very important truth we need to keep in mind. As believers we are not engaging in a war in hopes that we might win. We are engaging in a battle that has already been won!

Our success in battle is not predicated upon how well we wield the sword or use our shield of faith against the fiery darts of the evil one. Our success comes from how well we make a stand and hold our ground of what Jesus has done for us without wavering. In other words, as believers we don’t fight for a victory as much as we fight from a place of victory. Jesus has already won the victory for us! Our strength to fight the good fight of faith isn’t based in human effort but in the strength that God Himself provides. Our strength comes from our position, our relationship to Christ and who we are in Jesus.

How do we become strong in the Lord? The entire book of Ephesians teaches us we grow strong by knowing our place in Jesus! It’s not who we are but whose we are that gives us confidence in life. As we read the book of Ephesians the strength of our position is found in knowing our true identity. The book of Ephesians teaches us our strength in the Lord comes from knowing the truth that...

1. We are chosen. Ephesians Before the foundation of the world God chose us in Jesus. Stand on that today and don’t let anything or anyone move you from that position.
2. God has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly realm. We don’t have to go chasing after our blessings, God has blessed us as His children with everything we need to live a godly life. Don’t fall for the wiles of the devil who seeks to beguile us through charm and then when we take the bait condemns us for believing his lies.
3. God has predestined us to adoption. God says I chose you and blessed you, I have adopted you. You have all the rights and privileges of a child of God. What belongs to the Father belongs to you!
4. God has made us acceptable in the eyes of the beloved. We know the beginning, the middle and the end. This knowledge makes us strong! We are secure in Christ. Our salvation is secure, our relationship with God is secure because of what Jesus has done for us when He died and rose again on our behalf.
5. God has given us an inheritance. We aren’t beggars! We are sons and daughters!
6. He has raised us up to sit in heavenly places. Jesus is preparing a place for us in heaven. Our future is secure so we can enjoy the present!
7. He has given us His Holy Spirit. The best gift anyone can give is the gift of themselves. Jesus told His disciples He would not leave them as orphans but that He would pray to the Father and the Father would send the Holy Spirit to be with us and in us! We not only have been sealed for the day of our salvation, God has provided the power we need to live a victorious life in Jesus with the same strength that Jesus drew from as He was led by the Holy Spirit when He walked the earth.

Yes, loved one, be strong in Jesus! Be strong in the power of His might! Know the truth about who Jesus is, grow in the knowledge of what He has done and then you will both understand and enjoy what God has called you to do! Remember, knowledge is power and knowing Jesus is the most powerful truth the world has ever known!

“And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.”

John 17:3

I LOVE YOU!
